Got an old PCMCIA card, but only an Express Card slot in your new laptop?
You aren’t alone. Had this exact issue at a client today. Pointed them toward this adapter:

Kind of bulky to have that thing sticking out of the side of the laptop, but at least they can use their old PCMCIA card with their new laptop.
I’m just glad my Lenovo T500 has both slots
Windows 7 Idiot Proof?
Today I connected my laptop up to a network, but couldn’t get on the Internet, or anywhere, for that matter. I was just about to start looking into the issue, when I noticed an exclamation point on the network connection on my screen. I hovered over it, and it offered to diagnose my problem. I thought “sure, let’s give that a try”. I clicked on “Diagnose my problem.” and within a few seconds, Read the rest of this entry »
Great Wyse Terminal Websites
I was having some issues with a Wyse terminal deployment today and I used some information from this website to resolve my issue:
Most of the info is available in both English and German. Very helpful if you are using WDM to manage your Wyse Terminals. I also found this site helpful:
Windows XP virtual on Windows 7
I’ve been running Windows 7 for a couple of months now. Today I ran across my first application that wouldn’t install on Windows 7. So I needed a Windows XP virtual machine. Luckily, as part of Windows 7, Microsoft has planned to include the ability to run a virtual Windows XP OS. So to get around my predicament, I downloaded a beta of Virtual PC and a Windows XP machine from Microsoft at this website: Read the rest of this entry »
Awesome User Interface Tools
I stumbled across this company today in a magazine:
They look to have some great tools to build some very nice looking application interfaces. The pricing looked pretty reasonable, also.

Microsoft CRM 4.0 Rollup 3 Client Install Issues
I ran into an issue today where I could not get Hotfix Rollup 3 for Microsoft CRM Outlook Client to install on a Windows 2003 server. The error was:
Action Microsoft.CRM.UpdateWrapper.MspInstallAction failed
This is a 10 server Citrix farm, and I tried a couple of the servers and received the same error. After much research, we found that the original RTM client that was installed probably from the CRM media was a slightly different version than what the rollup was expecting. Oh, and we also tried rollup 2 and 4, but received the same error.
What we finally determined was that we needed a different client installed. So we uninstalled the client, and downloaded this one:
System Paged Pool Memory Issues
Ran into an issue today on a Windows 2003 Citrix farm. As soon as about 30 users logged into a server, any user thereafter received the following error:
Windows cannot load the user’s profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system.
Detail: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.
Event IDs 1505 and 1508 errors appeared in the application log.
The server had plenty of memory left, so it wasn’t actually that the server ran out of RAM. It was just an issue with how Windows was allocating it. After some research, I found this article:
Streamed, Provisioned and Hosted, Oh My!
I’m just back from Citrix Summit and Synergy that was held in Las Vegas last week. It has been amazing to see the transformation that Citrix has made the last 18 months or so in their product offerings and direction. Before that time, they seemed to be a sinking ship as their flagship product Presentation Server was losing ground as Microsoft added more and more functionality to Terminal Services. They seemed to grasp for straws by buying some strange companies (Ardence) and developing some seemingly unneeded applications (Easycall). Even when they bought XenSource, I was wondering what, if any, plan they had.
Now, it seems as though most of those purchases were very smart and very strategic. The complete solution they now offer with XenServer, XenDesktop, XenApp and Provisioning Server is very compelling. It seems as though no one out there has such a comprehensive, feature-rich solution. They are completely focused on the virtualized environment of the future. The fact that they are now beginning to offer their physical appliances as virtual appliances just goes to show how commited they are to the vision. You can always criticize them for their bad habit of changing product names, but you can’t criticize their vision.
XenApp Myths Video Spoof
In a keynote today at Citrix Synergy, they presented the following video. It is a pretty creative video that does a good job of dispelling some myths. Enjoy!
